A Visual Journey for Paulo Antunes

We don’t usually write in the blog about the works related to graphic design or visual identities, but in this case the challenge was such an ambiguous road that made the process more fun than the actual final result. You might be wondering why is there a photo of a set of dishes by Tim Berry, Head of Boury Restaurant at the beginning of this post... but that's actually where it all started. In a meeting with Paulo Antunes, CEO from PAULO ANTUNES FURNITURE, he gave one of the briefest briefings we’ve ever received in our lives, “I want our brand imagery to stand out just as these dishes stand out in this picture, where all the earthy colours pop up, but in our case would be the woods and leathers”. Maybe it wasn’t this word by word, but something in this line of thoughts for sure. The first step was to try to find images that would relate to what he was looking for so we could go in that direction, but after hundred of hours in everyone favourite inspirational platform Pinterest, we gave up because nothing would meet what he was looking for. You know those projects that you know what you want just not sure what it is? And to get there you go through the process of elimination of what it isn’t for sure? That’s what it came up to.

After some different proposals being rejected and worked upon, we finally came to a solution that would fit Paulo’s vision and that also made the Creative Director, Miguel Costa Cabral, glad too.

After the visuals were on point we made the catalogue with the help of the graphic designer from Paulo Antunes team, Ines Brandão, it had to be a quick process since we took a lot of time with the visuals and the Isaloni was a month away. To wrap it up, we made the catalogue launch campaing inspired in a Pop Up Book, keeping in mind the motto of the new pieces lauched by Paulo Antunes, “honor the past by looking at the future”. So what started with a photo of some chef dishes ended up in a quite interesting catalogue with a very intricate journey to get to it’s final visual aspect. The great part of it is that it could have ended up in a million different ways depending on a million different reasons, but it lead us to this, to be presented at Milan with all the novelties desgined to celebrate the return to the international shows.
