About
André Teoman Studio is a design studio based in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, working at the intersection of art, design, and making. Founded by designer André Teoman, the studio operates today through a close collaboration between André Teoman and Ana Rita Pires.
After completing a degree in Product Design, André Teoman worked with furniture and design brands before establishing his own studio. This experience within industrial environments shaped a critical understanding of production systems and scale, and gradually led to a practice more focused on material, process, and authorship.
From the beginning, the studio has been driven by collaboration with local artisans and workshops. These relationships are not approached as preservation or nostalgia, but as active exchanges of knowledge, gesture, and material intelligence, allowing traditions to evolve through contemporary practice.
The studio’s work moves between art and design as a necessity rather than a strategy. Objects are conceived to be encountered rather than consumed, balancing function with emotion, humour, and presence.
In recent years, the studio has shifted toward hands-on making, bringing production closer to the studio. This move responds to an increasingly automated design landscape, insisting on authorship and responsibility without rejecting technology. Projects such as Soldita reflect this approach, using welding as a creative language rather than a hidden technique.
André Teoman Studio develops objects that resist speed and neutrality, gathering meaning over time through material presence, use, and continuity.
