VIANALANDIA
VIANALANDIA
Vianalandia is a collection of crafts inspired by the traditional festivities of Viana do Castelo. Made from pieces bought at flea markets and original illustrations, Vianalandia brings to life a contemporary vibe of what the festivities could be if detached from all the rules and guidelines imposed by tradition.Inspired by the cultural crossing between artforms seen in the ancient “Austronesian settlers in the New Guinea region got the idea of "tattooing" their pots, perhaps inspired by geometric designs that they had already been using on their bark cloth and body tattoos” (Jared Diamond). In this collection of crafts and drawings the visual elements of the traditional garments and paper giant heads come to life crossing boundaries in all the creative vehicles turning all objects in “Vianenses” (Word for people that live in Viana do Castelo). Instead of a rigid approach to the tradition they jump from colors to forms to the canvas that can be a kitschobject, a painting or even your own body.
