Lazarim Collection

Lazarim Collection
Introducing the Lazarim Collection, a tribute to one of Portugal's most traditional carnivals and its iconic Caretos masks. Celebrating the Entrudo, the carnival is a time of licentiousness and satire, where locals confront institutional and religious authority. The Caretos, with their alderwood masks featuring zoomorphic features, are a hallmark of this festive season and have inspired this unique collection of art design pieces.
Crafted by skilled artisans, the Lazarim Collection consists of three objects: a bench, a side table, and a sconce. The objects feature a unique combination of three different worn masks, inspired by the Lazarim' masks and its traditions. Each piece is made of brass or bronze, featuring a typical studio aesthetic with an appearance that reflects the passage of time, just like the generations that have celebrated this tradition.
These pieces are accompanied by raffia details, adding a touch of the typical costumes worn by locals during the carnival. The Lazarim Collection is our homage to Portuguese traditions that will bring a touch of history and art to any space.
Each piece in the Lazarim collection adapts to the nature of the material it is made from. When working in bronze, an additive process, the forms are digitally sculpted, allowing for precise detailing and seamless integration with foundry techniques.
But when the same design is made in wood, a subtractive process, the digital is set aside, and the work is entrusted to master artisans, who carve each mask by hand, honoring the grain, resistance, and spirit of the material.
Rather than impose a fixed process, the Lazarim collection lets the material dictate the method, creating a balance between technology and tradition, between what can be designed on screen and what must be shaped by hand.
